About

We are building infrastructure that was missing.

Africa's Voice exists because the AI tools every Nigerian product needs — speech recognition, voice synthesis, language understanding — do not work in the languages Nigerians actually speak. We are building the foundation that fixes this, structured so the people whose voices make it possible share in the value it creates.

Why we exist

For decades, African languages were studied by outsiders, recorded by outsiders, and the value extracted by outsiders. The data sat in archives, in research papers, in proprietary corpora that contributors never benefited from. The current generation of AI is being built on this same foundation — large multilingual models that were trained on whatever scraps of African language data could be found, with no consent chain, no contributor ownership, and no commercial path that returns value to communities.

We do not believe this is the only way to build. The cooperative model — where the people who generate the data own the data, and share in what it earns — is older than venture capital, older than software companies, and proven across industries from agriculture to insurance to credit unions. Africa's Voice applies that model to AI training data.

The technology will be world-class because the data will be world-class. The data will be world-class because the contributors building it have a direct stake in its quality. That alignment of incentives is the entire point.

Three core values

01

Owned, not borrowed

The data belongs to the people who made it. Every architectural decision — cooperative structure, consent tiers, dividend formula — flows from this belief. When we make a product decision, the first question is always: does this serve the contributors who built the data?

02

Infrastructure lasts

We are not building for this funding cycle. We are building something the continent will depend on in a generation. Decisions are made at that timescale. If a shortcut saves three months now but creates a rebuild at Series A, we do not take the shortcut.

03

The language is the standard

Yoruba is not a variant of English. Igbo is not a low-resource edge case. Every language we touch gets the same rigour, the same investment, the same respect as Nigerian English. There is no hierarchy of languages in this company.
